Depreciation Asset
A young and pretty lady posted this on a popular forum:
Title: What should I do to marry a rich guy?
I'm going to be honest of what I'm going to say here. I'm 25 this year. I'm very pretty, have style and good taste. I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above. You might say that I'm greedy, but an annual salary of $1M is considered only as middle class in New York . My requirement is not high. Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary? Are you all married? I wanted to ask: what should I do to marry rich persons like you? Among those I've dated, the richest is $250k annual income, and it seems that this is my upper limit. If someone is going to move into high cost residential area on the west of New York City Garden , $250k annual income is not enough.
I'm here humbly to ask a few questions:
1) Where do most rich bachelors hang out? (Please list down the names and addresses of bars, restaurant, gym)
2) Which age group should I target?
3) Why most wives of the riches is only average-looking? I've met a few girls who doesn't have looks and are not interesting, but they are able to marry rich guys
4) How do you decide who can be your wife, and who can only be your girlfriend? (my target now is to get married)
Ms. Pretty
Here's a reply from a Wall Street Financial guy:
Dear Ms. Pretty,
I have read your post with great interest. Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyze your situation as a professional investor. My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I'm not wasting time here.
From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you. The answer is very simple, so let me explain. Put the details aside, what you're trying to do is an exchange of beauty and money: Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square. However, there's a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year, but you can't be prettier year after year. Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciation asset, and you are a depreciation asset. It's not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worried 10 years later.
By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a trading position. If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term same goes with the marriage that you wanted. It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or leased. Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool; we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.
Hope this reply helps. If you are interested in leasing services, do contact me.
Signed,

The good life (2007)

I'm sorry, but I don't want to be an Emperor - that's not my business. I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone, if possible -- Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another; human beings are like that. We want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. In this world there's room for everyone and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone.
The way of life can be free and beautiful.
But we have lost the way.
Greed has poisoned men's souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.

Google Chrome, the new open source browser from Google

Download from here (windows version only - for now).
Google Chrome is a new open source web browser that the folks from Google developed. The main innovation under the hood is the way the User Interface is built around TABS, which fully replace the title bar.
The browser is build around SEARCHING, at each step you are invited to perform a search (for bookmarks, history, etc.) with the help of Google Search of course :)
The User Interface is a mixture of Opera and Firefox. It borrows good ideas from both (address bar functionality from Firefox 3 and bookmarks in blank tabs from Opera for example).
The browser uses the WebKit (same open source technology that powers Safari and other web browsers), so it should be quite fast.
As if the web browser market wouldn't be crowded enough with Internet explorer 6, Internet explorer 7, Internet explorer 8 beta, Firefox 2, Firefox 3, Safari, Opera, Camino, Konqueror.. and so on, Google Chrome arrived just in time to make your decision of which browser to use even harder. They should keep funding Firefox in my opinion and let the web browser development to Mozilla.
Google Chrome is a natural step in the evolution of Google Products, considering the fact that it is built around Google Search (it invites you to use the search much more than any other browser). More searches means more $ for Google.
You can find the official presentation of Google Chrome here.

Millenium Project - how UN sees the future

The Millennium Project filed a report that underlines the major problems of humanity in the near future: overpopulation, famine, violence, decline of moral values, organized crime, wars.
Also they say that the worlds population will reach 9,8 billion people somewhere near 2050 and by 2100 it will suddenly drop to 4,3 billion.
This is a very sudden drop in population for 50 years. It would be interesting to see what they think about what could cause such a major decline.
Millennium Project was initiated by the United Nations in 2002 to develop a concrete action plan for the world to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and to reverse the grinding poverty, hunger and disease affecting billions of people.
The name reminded me of the old TV Series - Millenium. Considering the name and the topics illustrated in the tv series, I would say that it is inspired from the real organization, at least partially.
